Cape Spear / Cape Scott is a video and audio seascape installation depicting the eastern and western coasts of Canada as seen from Cape Scott, BC (at the northwestern tip of Vancouver Island), and Cape Spear, Newfoundland (the most easterly point on the continent). This work examines time as it tracks the sun traveling through the frame, cycling through the east coast sunrise and west coast sunset. The sun’s entire day journey across the country is implied, drawing an arcing line between both points and inviting a sensory engagement with Canada’s vast geographic span. The piece is an understated document of the distant edges of this land, depicting nothing but the ends, while suggesting all that lies between.
